Hi, there! My name is Katie and I love desserts! Not much of a revelation there considering the name of the website, but let me qualify: I love all kinds of healthy desserts. Yes, you heard right, so your double take is completely justified. I love desserts, but being a mother of three I have come to the realization that you really have to watch what your kids eat and to get them to love healthy food while they’re young! But don’t worry, I’m not about to espouse anything too far out there. For one thing, you can’t just give you kids something that looks like it was predigested by a cat and expect them to eat it. I have made compromises between yummy and healthy so that my kids stopped looking at me with suspicion when I present them with something new. I have made a lot of missteps along the way, so I thought that it would be a great concept to share my experiences (and recipes) with all moms out there who may be struggling with managing their kids’ diets and make it easier for them. A few things that I can tell you moms right off the bat is that you have to gain their trust by conceding some battles in the dessert arena like the occasional Snickers bar in order to win the health war; banning all “unhealthy” treats will only teach them to hide it from you. Sometimes there are desserts that are both yummy and healthy like frozen yogurt, but that is not always going to be the case. You have to learn to become sneaky and disguise the stuff you want your kids to eat, such as by incorporating carrots in their cupcakes or making fruity frozen yogurt snacks. There are many ways to make desserts healthy; all it takes is a little effort and a lot of thinking outside the box. Read on and be amazed! Check out this video for making your own frozen yogurt!
